DIVINE EMOTIONS

A Jot from John

Our heavenly Father is endowed with emotions not unlike the emotions that we, as human beings, experience. However, there is this important difference: His emotions are altogether pure, also more intense. The Bible ascribes to him the following emotions.

I. PITY

For them that fear him (Psalm 103:13.)

For him who cries for mercy. (Matt. 18:23-27.)

II. HATRED

For seven abominable things. (Prov. 6:16-19.)

For “every false way.” (Psalm 119:104b.)

 III. JOY

When his work prospers. (Luke 10:17-21.)

When a sinner repents. (Luke 15:3-10.)

 IV. GRIEF

At all forms of evil. (Gen. 6:5-6.)

At rebellion and hardness of heart. (Heb. 3:10; Mark 3:5; Luke 13:34.)

 V. ANGER

At all insincerity. (Matt. 23:13ff.)

At impenitence. (Rom. 2:5-9; Col. 3:5-6.)

 VI. JEALOUSY

At the enthronement of another god in our affections. (Exo. 20:3-5.)

If we do not give him first place in our hearts, he will accept no place.

 VII. DISGUST

At the lukewarmness of his people. (Rev. 3:15-16.) It is not the cold sinner

that creates disgust in the Divine heart, but the indifferent Christian.

The lukewarm church member is nauseating to the Lord and, unless he

warms up, will be rejected of the Lord!

 Onward Rejoicing,
