WHERE I AM, THERE SHALL MY SERVANT BE TEXT: John 12:26

A Jot from John

Who are those who stand with Christ?

  1. Negative replies:

(a)   Not the hypocrite. His heart is far from the Lord. (Mark 7:6.)

(b)   Not the coward. He follows “afar off.” (Matthew 26:58.)

(c)   Not the prodigal. He is in a “far country.” (Luke 15:13.)

(d)   Not the neutral. He is against Christ. (Matthew 12:30.)

(e)   Not the deserter. He works no more with the Lord. (John 6:66.)

2. Positive replies:

(a)   The worker who works with God, stands with Christ. (2 Corinthians 6:1.)

(b)   The servant who is yoked with Jesus, stands with him. (Matthew 11:29-30.)

(c)   Those who watch with Christ, stand with him. (Mark 14:34.)

(d)   Those who suffer with him, stand with him. (Romans 8:17.)

(e)   The “called, and chosen, and faithful,” overcome “with him.” (Revelation 17:14.)

What are the Lord’s requirements for this companionship?

  1. We must die with our Lord, to be with him. (Romans 6:8.)

  2. We must deny ourselves, to follow him. (Matthew 16:24.)

  3. We must be buried with him, to be with him. (Romans 6:4, Colossians 2:12.)

  4. We must be raised with him through faith in the operation of God, to be with him. (Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:4.)

  5. We must be in Christ, to be with him. (2 Corinthians 5:17.)

  6. We must stand with Christ, to be with him. (Luke 11:23.)

  7. We must reign with Christ, to be with him. (2 Timothy 2:12; Romans 5:17.)
