I remember where I was when I learned my very first memory verse. It was in Wednesday night Bible class. Over the years I have never forgotten this verse, as it is special to me being the first verse of God's word that I memorized. From the King James Version, it is: Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 7:21). Not only has this verse become special to me, but also Wednesday night Bible classes. For it was there that we dug deep into the word and grew thereby, and I look back on those times with a grateful heart.
The early Christians met on a daily basis. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved (Acts 2:46,47 NKJV). They "searched the Scriptures daily" (Acts 17:11). They exhorted "one another daily" (Hebrews 3:13). The book of Hebrews was written to encourage Christians to remain faithful, wherein he writes, Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching (Hebrews 10:23-25). Meeting often with the church will help you be faithful to God.
Our shepherds have set aside time on Wednesday nights for us to come together and study the Bible. Life is about making choices of how to spend our time, and not only is it wise to discern what is good, but also what is better and what is best. The apostle Paul wrote to the church in Philippi, And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent (Philippians 1:9,10a). To be at our mid-week Bible study is the best or the "excellent" choice. Would you like to have a greater appreciation for what the Lord has done for you? A greater love for God and your fellow Christians? A greater knowledge of the will of God? A greater desire for that heavenly home? Then what better thing can you do on a Wednesday night than to be here with the church?
You might arrive a little tired from work, but you will leave revived. You may not get to bed as soon as you do on other nights, but the time will not be wasted. You might have to make some other sacrifices, but your joy may be full. What better thing can we do for our children and grandchildren and even ourselves than to be here on Wednesday nights for Bible class? But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 3:14,15). I know “from whom [I] have learned them.” I think of Wednesday nights with my Bible class teachers and friends. Brotherly, Jamie
